My name is Jacquelyn Sernau, and I serve as the school district’s literacy specialist. I have been with the district since 2000, and have been a junior high English teacher, a literacy instructional coach, and now, a Literacy Specialist. My current role within the district is to serve on the administrative leadership team and help make decisions on initiatives and goals for our school. I then have the pleasure to bring these ideas to classroom teachers with providing coaching and instructional support in their classrooms. I also provide reading interventions for students who have reading needs and serve on building consultation teams in both buildings. This team is in charge of looking at student data and meeting with teachers to make decisions on providing help to meet students’ needs. The last major role I have is with Title I. Manawa Elementary School is a School-wide Title I school. This means federal funds go to all students in the school and not just those students who qualify. I work with the data collection, plan-writing, funding, and parent engagement pieces of this program. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
